This position is a permanent position. To be eligible for permanent appointment to a position in NSW Health, you must have an Australian citizenship or permanent Australian residency. Employment of a temporary visa holder will only occur if there is no suitable local applicant.
As a multi functional laboratory the position:
Will assist with the provision of laboratory services to NSWHP customers.
The triage of specimens on arrival to the laboratory; interpret request form and clinical history information to determine correct laboratory tests; apply documented patient identification and specimen accept/reject criteria; register specimens in the LIS; label, distribute or store samples ready for laboratory testing.
Interpret, validate and report results using the LIS, and assess when results require further action or notification; perform urgent notification of laboratory results to clinicians as required.
Respond to telephone enquiries, give results, and assess when enquiries should be referred to more senior scientific or medical staff.
Apply technical knowledge to work safely and methodically, with high attention to detail
Contribute to laboratory quality systems such as NATA accreditation to ISO Standard 15189, compliance with NPAAC requirements, including inventory management, laboratory records and documentation.
Perform equipment calibration, maintenance and troubleshooting
Perform quality control procedures including acceptance testing of kits and reagents and perform routine monitoring of test results
Participate in RCPA and other quality assurance programmes, and ongoing review of laboratory performance against key indicators
Participation in the selection, evaluation, verification and validation of new laboratory equipment and testing methods
Other duties as directed by the department manager and senior staff.
Participate as a shift worker in a rotating 7-day roster, as required for provision of a 24/7 pathology service.
