The role of the Occupational Health & Safety Department is to maintain and improve our occupational health and safety management systems. The team is to ensure that accurate information and statistical data is captured, maintained and archived and promptly available at all times, while achieving deliverables and implementing improvements.
As the Emergency Response Team Coordinator reporting to the Occupational Health & Safety Superintendent, your role is to ensure that the emergency preparedness program of the company’s operations is developed, maintained and reviewed to meet Legislative, OHSAS/ISO standards. Our team of Emergency Response Officers will report the incumbent, who will be responsible for ensuring that the team has sufficient training and resources to promptly and adequately respond to operational emergencies with minimal impact to the business.
Key Responsibilities
· Coordinate Mines Rescue Team when responding to an emergency\
· Coach and mentor senior members of the Emergency Response team
· Determine and interpret legal and regulatory requirements, risk and hazard assessments and vulnerability to human life, equipment and company assets
· Develop and update emergency preparedness management systems , planning concepts, incident management techniques, and hazard and risk analysis skills
· Host visits from Environment/Safety auditors and Insurers inquiring about our emergency preparedness and response
Skills and Experience Required
· Safety or Emergency Management Certificate/Diploma
· Fire safety certificate or diploma
· At least 10 years of experience in Fire Brigade/Mine Rescue environment with a high emphasis on emergency preparedness and response
· At least intermediate life support medical qualification
· Trained in Advanced Fire Fighting, Vehicle Extrication techniques, Breathing Apparatus, HAZHEM, Advanced Rope Rescue and Searching Emergency preparedness system development
· Major/catastrophic event planning and coordination
· Good interpersonal and communication skills with a high level of leadership, self-motivation and initiative
· Ability to communicate in French and English
· Good reporting writing and presentation skills
· Strong organizational and team building skills
· Problem solving and systematic analysis
· Ability to assess situations and make clear decisions under pressure in extreme environmental conditions
