Database Administrator Job at Singapore

This position includes hands-on ability to manage large-scale and massively concurrent MySQL systems throughout multi-number of Lazada sites. Should not only have technical capabilities listed in this job description but also the ability to interact and communicate with other technical team members, peers and the management. 

Scope:

​Proactively and reactively find problems and performance degradation caused due to database query, hardware, network and other factors. Should have a proven ability to rapidly master complex new skills and concepts, as well as the ability to work independently and self-motivate. Ability to rapidly troubleshoot complex technical problems under pressure. Excellent interpersonal communication and management reporting skills are required. Should work concurrently across all database related projects.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Maintain our global fleet of database instances across various projects and guarantee their availability 24x7x365.
  • Review, recommend changes and implement all database schema changes introduced by Engineering Team.
  • Design and implement comprehensive security solutions to protect data at rest.
  • Setup and monitor backup and restore tasks, conduct maintenance and auditing tasks on database systems.
  • Proactively conduct performance tuning exercises on the database systems.
  • Analyze complex queries, collect statistics and tune them.
  • Analyze trending data and provide performance recommendations addressing specific application system performance issues.
  • Keep abreast of IT industry trends and developments to help identify potential new technologies for the improvement of company’s database infrastructure.
  • Actively contribute to identifying root cause for database incidents and problems.
  • Effectively communicate status, database changes, and issues to the relevant parties and stakeholders.
  • Be part of 24x7 on-call support and work in night shifts on demand or as per schedule once or twice per month.
 
Knowledge, Qualifications and Abilities:
  • Bachelors in Computer Science or Information Systems, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years relevant experience, with at least 2 years on MySQL on Unix/Linux
  • Working knowledge of MySQL DBA best practices.
  • Experience in working with High Availability solutions.
  • Good working knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., shell, python).
  • Strong written and verbal skills.
