Head Of Engineering Job in Brough, E Riding of Yorkshire, United Kingdom

The Head of Engineering is responsible for ensuring that all technical aspects of a project are achieved with regards to meeting all specifications, costs and delivery schedules.

In order to apply for the role of Head of Engineering you will need to display a good understanding of general engineering especially some of the key areas listed below:
  • HVAC and associated matters including thermal dynamics, heating, cooling, heat storage and dissipation
  • Power and energy calculations
  • Equipment and supplier selection including CHP systems, ground source heat pumps
  • Humidity control
  • Water flow management
  • Mechanical and electrical requirements and layouts
  • Structural design including load calculations (FEA / stress)
  • Civil engineering
  • Design including structural and layouts
  • Production including metal working, welding and fabrication, assembly
  • Planning and delivery including ensuring the availability of labour, necessary equipment, materials, tools etc
  • Installation and commissioning
  • Design and Cost control

Person Specification:

  • Degree Qualified in a relevant engineering subject – this may be General, Mechanical, Electrical or Structural Engineering or similar
  • Post graduate qualifications are beneficial but not essential
  • Professional accreditations or certifications are desirable but not essential
  • Extensive experience of managing multi-disciplined teams and of bringing people together to ensure that all aspects of a client’s requirements or specifications are met to deliver a quality solution to that client
  • Experience of a variety of different engineering subjects – CAD, FEA, CFD, thermodynamics, pneumatics, hydraulics, energy, materials, lighting
  • Extensive experience of the full life cycle delivery of technically complex projects.
  • Proficient with MS Project, Primavera or similar
  • Commercially aware, cost conscious
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and comfortable dealing with clients from enquiry to delivery stage
  • An “inclusive” people management style
  • Challenging and always asking why. Not content with the status quo, always looking to improve engineering solutions
  • Any experience of commercial contracts is extremely beneficial
